"I'm absolutely shocked and delighted at the same time. I'm just speechless as I didn't see that coming at all. Training has been going well, but nothing has indicated that I could do that kind of swim. In my mind, I was probably a few seconds off that and just now coming back into competition having had a difficult winter I'm delighted.
"It's my birthday tomorrow so who knows, maybe I can celebrate with another record. I don't know though, that's probably a bit too much to hope for but at least I can leave Manchester knowing that everything is coming together and all the hard work has paid off.
"This is the first time since Beijing that the whole British team have been together so it's great to catch up, reminisce a little bit but more importantly help inspire each other to better things. Beijing was obviously a tremendous success for us, and so tomorrow at the BT Paralympic World Cup meet, we'll be looking to take as many medals as we can to keep that rhythm going.
"The BT Paralympic World Cup is crucial to all the competitors here, that's why some of the athletes fly half way around the world to be here. We get to measure ourselves against the best in the world to really see where we're at. It's the one everybody wants to win so hopefully tomorrow we will see more records falling."
Curtis Lovejoy (USA)
“What can I say? A world recorded I’m so totally amazed. I set my previous personal best probably over a year ago now so I’ve been looking forward to this day.
“I think it was due to the great start that I got off the blocks. That really helped me get up there to the new time. It’s brilliant. I’m looking forward to celebrating with the team.”
Elizabeth Simpkin (GBR)
“I was disappointed with my swim. Four seconds off my personal best is obviously not what I’m aiming for so hopefully tomorrow for the main event I’ll be able to pick myself up and put in a better performance. I know I have it in me, just for some reason this morning I just couldn’t quite reach the standard I wanted to.
“It is great to be here, competing against the best in the world. Next up I have the Europeans so I’ll be training hard for that.
“I am one of the youngest in the team but I don’t really notice it anymore. It’s great for me to be able to chat to the more experienced swimmers and listen ton their advice but I do have some good experience behind me too after I went to Beijing so I’m setting myself high goals as everything I do now is geared to London 2012.”
