F54-57 – SHOT PUT
Gold Medal – Daniel West, GBR
10.52 – 975 pts
“I’m happy, I did well to pull it out of the bag. It was a bit of a nightmare as I’ve changed my technique and it’s the first time in front of such high standard judges and they called me for lifting a couple of times so had to get my head on and adapt my technique and got it on my last throw, so yes happy.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is a great first event of the season to take part in and the result proves I’m going in the right direction with my new technique which is great.
“It’s my third World Cup and I’ve achieved gold at each one so I can probably retire now!”
T44 – 100 Metres
Bronze Medal – Ian Jones, GRB

“I’m over the moon with that result, it couldn’t be better for me. The 100 isn’t really my event so totally pleased to have run a PB in my first and biggest event of the year.
“Training has been going really well and it’s obviously shown today. I’ve got the 400m at the end of the meet and can’t wait to see what I can do in that now.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is my biggest event this year and it’s important to my preparations for future events, so to get such a great first result is brilliant.”
T44 – 100 Metres
Silver Medal – Jerome Singleton, USA

“It was a nice race, it’s good to come here and compete. I wish I’d ran a little bit faster, it was a PB but I’ve already had two races this season.
“I certainly feel running with Oscar will push me further and get all of us in our class running faster. This time Oscar and I weren’t beside each other so I couldn’t see how close it was, I looked over but I couldn’t see exactly where he was.
“This is my second time here at the BT Paralympic World Cup. Everyone is always so nice, we stay in a nice hotel and get three meals a day, so couldn’t ask for more.
“I’ll certainly try to come back as often as possible for these years leading up until 2012.”
F40 – DISCUS THROW
Bronze Medal – Sophie Hancock, GRB
20.59
“Today went really well, since Beijing I’ve been having a rest time and not been doing too much discus so to get out there and do a seasons best and the best performance that I’ve ever started in a season is great, I’m really pleased with that.
“It really builds my confidence for the rest of the year and I’m looking forward to getting back in to it now. I’m in the shot putt a little later on today which is my strongest event at the moment but that’s because I’ve been concentrating training on that more.
“From here the big goal is London obviously but this year the next step is the World Dwarf Games at the end of July.”

3rd – Libby Clegg (GB)

“The race went really well. I didn’t have much time to recover after my last event and my legs were quite heavy at the end but it was good. I’m really pleased with my performance.
“I’ve enjoyed myself today at the BT Paralympic World Cup. It’s a great opportunity to run against you rivals.”

Gold Medal – Tatyana McFadden

“That race went really well for me. I just had to stay relaxed and calm. The crowd was really positive, it was a great atmosphere. It was one of my first track events since Beijing so it was a little bit tough but I’m really pleased to win the gold medal.
“I’ve enjoyed the BT Paralympic World Cup a lot. It’s great weather here in Manchester and it’s just really good to be back out on the track competing after Beijing.”
T36 – 200 METRES
Fourth – Graeme Ballard, GRB
26.04
“I was pipped at the post by China. I don’t want to sound like sour grapes but I’m not overly happy with that result, he wasn’t in my eye line and I feel I deserved that medal position.
“I was prepared for this race and I felt good so I’m disappointed with my result.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is always an enjoyable meet to come to but I would’ve liked to come away with the bronze.”

Silver Medal – Ian Jones, GBR

“Two PB’s, two European Records, it’s been great and more than I expected. I did the 100 as a warm up to the four so to medal and get a PB was brilliant. I can only improve from that so I’m looking forward to my next race now.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup has been a great event, it’s been a great day, the sun’s come out the crowd were great and very supportive I couldn’t ask for more in my home city, it’s been awesome.”
T46 – 100 METRES
Seventh – Kate Arnold, GRB
14.57
“It was my first race of the season, just wanted to see how I’d go and I feel ok. I haven’t got too many competitions this year so the BT Paralympic World Cup is good preparation and a great opportunity for me to race against the top girls in the sport.”
T54 – 1500 METRES
Gold Medal – Tatyana McFadden, GBR

“The BT Paralympic World Cup is my first and only competition in Europe this year so it’s been great to compete here in Britain and get myself two golds, I’m very happy and pleased with the result.
“The 1500 was a good race and I’m pleased with the time, the crowd here are amazing and have great energy so it’s great to perform well in front of them.”

4th – Graeme Ballard (GB)

“The race wasn’t bad but it could have been better. My training has not been as good as I’d like because I’ve had a back injury so I’ve still got a lot of work to do on my fitness.
“It’s good to be back competing though. I enjoy competing here in Manchester and the BT
Paralympic World Cup is something I look forward to.”
T44 – 100 METRES
Gold Medal – Oscar Pistorius
11.13
“I’m super super happy with the gold medal. It was always going to be a tight race and it was always going to be a matter of catch up because Jerome Singleton is very fast in the first 30m.
“I was a bit worried coming into the race because I’ve not been feeling great lately but today was probably the first day that I’ve felt excited about being back on the track.
“It’s always great running at Manchester in the BT Paralympic World Cup. It’s a world class meet with all the top athletes here competing.”
T36 – 100 METRES
Gold Medal – Ben Rushgrove, GBR

“The race was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. The weather has been great this year which can’t really be said for the last few years so that’s always a bonus.
“If I’m honest I’m a bit disappointed with the time but at this stage in the season I don’t think we could’ve done much better than that. It’s my first race of the season and I’ve been injured so not much training under my belt so it’s a good point to build form here. Every time you go out you need to push that time a little bit further but today I’m happy with the race.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is fantastic, we really need more of events like this. It’s really important that we keep the public aware of what’s going on in the Paralympic world, it’s such an exciting business at the moment, with lots of new developments happening.”
T36/37 – 200 METRES
Fifth – Hazel Simpson, GRB
32.10
“I’m pleased with that, it was good for me to get that sort of competition experience as I’m in a different class so to compete against girls from the other class pushes me harder and gives me a great opportunity to test myself.
“I’ve just started with a new coach so we’re going through my training and doing lots more speed work which is great.”
T36/37 – 200 METRES
Fourth – Jenny McLoughlin, GRB
32.08
“The race felt good, I’m not sure where I came but it’s my first race of the season so I’m not looking to peak right now. I’m happy with the way I ran.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is a good starting competition for us to see what I need to do for the rest of the year and to compete internationally is great too.”
T54 800M & T54 1500M
Bronze Medal in both – Shelley Woods, GBR
800m – 2.01.85
1500m – 3.51.49
“Today was ok, I would’ve liked to have been a bit closer at the finish, especially in the 1500, I’ve got a few things to work on so I know where to go from here.
“It’s been a nice event to be a part of and get racing again, I competed last year but this is my first race since Beijing.
“The BT Paralympic World Cup is always a great success and you’ve got some good girls here and it’s always well organised and great that I don’t have to travel very far.”
