
The men's wheelchair basketball team went on from a disappointing result at the BT Paralympic World Cup with grit and determination and gained a bronze medal at the Four Nations Cup in Sydney, competing against Olympic Champions Australia, Canada and Japan. The women's team also claimed a bronze at the European Championships following a tough encounter with the French.
The Para-Cycling team were in fine form breaking five world records and claiming a further ten medals at the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in November in Manchester. The team included both Sarah Storey and Jody Cundy who also took on the Olympians in the British Senior National Championships. Storey successfully defended her national title in the able-bodied 3km pursuit and Cundy took on triple Olympic champion, Sir Chris Hoy in the Flying 200m Sprint.
Athletes including Ben Rushgrove and Katrina Hart continued their success at Crystal Palace in July with both claiming the top podium spot for the men's and women's 100m respectively. It was an emotional affair as the World, Paralympic and European champion Danny Crates retired from athletics finishing third in his final race.
Following close to a clean sweep of medals at the BT Paralympic World Cup the swimmers finished off the year in style in Rio at the World Championships, picking up a total of 11 medals, four gold's, five silver and two bronze.
With high hopes for 2010 and 2012 less than 1,000 days away, there's no rest for the athletes, who will all continue to train over the festive season to ensure Great Britain stays at the top of the Paralympic table at next year's BT Paralympic World Cup.
