The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF), established in 1993, is the world body for wheelchair basketball with full responsibility for development of the sport. Its mission is to organise and develop international wheelchair basketball competitions of the highest quality for its member nations and to establish and develop standards of play in an increasing number of countries.

As of 2011, there are 94 member nations actively participating in IWBF sanction events throughout the world. IWBF members represent over 100,000 people who play the game of wheelchair basketball at some level, with this number increasing each year.
