Manchester City Council

Manchester City CouncilWorld class sporting events boost Manchester’s international profile and image and demonstrate the City’s ability to make an impact and to deliver on a global stage.

They can promote Manchester as an attractive and exciting multicultural city and as an international sporting capital. Indeed, as the World prepares for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Manchester's sports facilities are set to play a big part as training venues for many British and International elite athletes.

Major Sports Events not only strengthen and sustain the local sporting infrastructure through the involvement of officials but also provide opportunities to engage with elite athletes. They also significantly support the Council’s strategic objectives for culture, health, inclusion and tourism by actively involving local people, promoting initiatives of real long term benefit and developing strong partnerships.

Manchester City Council employs a Strategic Manager to work specifically in the field of disability sport and provide sporting opportunities for local residents and communities.
