ParalympicsGB is the trading name of the British Paralympic Association, which was established in 1989 with the role of sending the British team to the Paralympic Games.
The organization’s core aim is to send the ‘best prepared team to the Games’ every two years, however its remit has developed enormously in the last 19 years. Through the Performance Services Team, the organisation provides support services to the elite Paralympic squads to enhance their own sport specific programmes.
ParalympicsGB took more than 200 athletes to Beijing and competed in 18 sports, finishing second on the medal table with 102 medals, including 42 golds. ParalympicsGB continues to be recognised domestically and internationally as a world leader in the development of high performance Paralympic sport both on and off the field of play, demonstrating sound ethical principles, high standards of governance and management and a clear, well-informed and cohesive athlete-focused approach in all aspects of its work.
